Director of Domestic Violence Services,

Unity House

Tabitha Dunn ORIG

Tabitha Dunn is the Director of Domestic Violence Services at Unity House, where she has worked for 23 years in a variety of positions from overnight shelter case manager to the Director role she now holds.  As Director, Tabitha oversees one of the largest domestic violence programs in upstate New York including a 40-bed shelter, extensive housing subsidy program serving over 140 households, a large prevention and education program focused in part on empowering young women and girls, and a clinical mental health program that employs eight licensed professionals. As an avid supporter of inclusion and prevention work, Tabitha regularly provides training and education programs at a wide range of community organizations and educational institutions. Tabitha is both a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and Nationally Certified Counselor.

Tabitha's focus and dedication to expanding services stems from her own experience of domestic violence as a child, as well as her own educational struggles.  At the age of 16, Tabitha dropped out of school as the result of bullying and after combating a significant learning disability for the majority of her life. Despite leaving high school at such a young age Tabitha dedicated herself to finishing her education in a way that supported her creative learning style.  Ultimately, she was able to complete her GED, attend collage across many years while raising a child as a single parent, and then obtaining a Master's degree in Mental Health Counseling. These experiences and inherent challenges only served to reinforce the need for leadership and focus on developing supportive services to help women and girls succeed in their life goals.
